Boscundle Manor wins "Best Cornish Venue" at the 2008 West Country wedding Awards

The West Country Wedding Awards finals were held last night at the Plymouth Gin distillary located in the Barbican, Plymouth and we are absolutely delighted to report that we won!

This was an event for all wedding suppliers and service providers who have premises within Devon & Cornwall and this 'Peoples Choice Award' meant that the size of our business and the number of customers was not a factor, with all suppliers – big or small, new or well established – having an equal chance of winning. National Chains and National Franchises were not permitted to enter.

Of all the Cornish Venues that entered, Boscundle Manor was one of just 3 finalists including Alverton Manor and Polhawn Fort, however the West Country Wedding Awards Judging Panel concluded that Boscundle Manor was the best wedding venue in Cornwall.

"I am just thrilled to receive this award" said Sharon Parker, Boscundle Manor's owner and wedding planner, "It just reinforces our belief that we have a truly unique venue here, for weddings big or small and especially where the bride and groom are able to take us over on an exclusive use basis".

Sharon Parker - your very own wedding planner!

If you choose to get married or have your reception at Boscundle Manor, part of the deal includes your very own wedding planner!

It is vital that your wedding planner is able to develop a rapport with your bridal party and family and is sensitive and receptive to their ideas. By listening, taking notes and documenting, they become an integral part of the design and planning process thus “making it happen”. They must be practical and well organised, so that you and your bride or groom are not bothered with last minute details on the day and any anxieties that you may have, must be resolved by the wedding planner.

Sharon Parker, the resident wedding planner is just that person and is able to help you as much or as little as you choose to make your day just perfect. She has been orchestrating weddings at Boscundle Manor for more than 5 years now, so has an absolute wealth of experience on knowing how to make your day go smoothly. Once your "style" has been established, Sharon can play as big or as little a part in the organisation as you want. If you want her to look after everything, then she can but if you are just after gentle guidance then she can help you there as well.

Previous Experience

Sharon was the event coordinator for major gala dinners that were held in The Ballroom of The Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane. This experience provided her with the confidence that her skills were good enough and as a result, became one of the “big spenders” at the Dorchester having spent close to £30,000 on each of the three events. Sharon is skilled in making the planning process fun and being able to break down the entire event into manageable bite sized pieces and she is also good at visualizing the overall style of the event in her mind’s eye.

What makes Boscundle weddings special?

With style

There are no hard and fast rules to planning a wedding other than style which MUST prevail. Style means creating a personal environment which can be shared with your closest friends and family in order to make them feel as welcome and comfortable as possible. By listening carefully it is possible to learn more about you, your favourite foods, hobbies, jobs and personalities. Keywords such as “elegant”, “formal”, “laid back”, “fireworks”, “live band” and “relaxed” are dropped into the conversation and by watching their faces and reactions, the style of the event forms.

Well planned

Sharon will never do the “hard sell” on you. She feels that it is much more important that you naturally move towards wanting your event to be at Boscundle Manor. Maybe this doesn’t equate to the largest business possible but it has resulted in a 100% satisfaction rating. During the initial meetings up to 3 months prior to the event, Sharon will work with you as much or as little as you require and is never overpowering. She will give you time, because she obviously cares so much to ensure the day is the most perfect event possible for you and your guests. All the little extras are just “done”.

Attention to detail

When the date finally arrives the weekend celebrations will flow seamlessly, which, for even the most informal of ceremonies, is down to careful and detailed planning that is shared with the whole team.

Exclusive use!

Boscundle Manor is one of only a few hotels in Cornwall where we are able to offer you and your wedding party exclusive use of the hotel for the 2 or 3 days around the day of the event. With just 14 rooms, we are just the right size to accommodate most, if not all, the key people and with both heated indoor and outdoor pool there are things for the children to do as well.

Food

The chefs at Boscundle Manor are able to put together just about any selection of food to compliment your day. Not unique, but quite unusual, is our ability to offer you and your guests a choice of food, typically three starters, main courses and desserts as well as vegetarian and other special dietary requirements.

All year Round

It is undeniable that Boscundle Manor is lovely in the summer time, but it also has a very special feel in the winter months and around Christmas. With its cosy sized rooms, real log fire and comfy furniture Boscundle is suitable for weddings at any time of the year. Even marquee weddings have taken place in December with suitable heating systems installed in the marquee.

Civil Ceremonies

Boscundle has 3 locations within the Manor, which are licensed for civil ceremonies; the dining room, the lounge and the conservatory. All ceremonies conducted so far have taken place in our lounge where we are able to seat up to 60 guests for the ceremony.

New for 2007 is a thatched gazebo located on the croquet lawn which is expected to be licensed during 2007 and will become the first venue in the area to offer outdoor weddings.

Marquees

For small parties up to 44 guests, receptions can take place in our dining room, however we are able to accommodate up to 90 people in a fabulous marquee, which can be attached directly to our dining room. We erect the marquee on a purpose made terrace just outside the dining room and attach it directly to the front side of the house. The marquees have a solid floor, carpet to suit your colour scheme and are fully lined and lit. Optional exterior lighting is available to illuminate all the grounds in a range of colours as well as a powerful heating system so you can even have a marquee wedding in the winter!

And the result - all the splendour of a marquee style reception with out the two biggest drawbacks; no wet grass and no portaloos!

This is one of the most commonly asked questions but is almost impossible to answer in one line. Every wedding that takes place here at Boscundle is different from the last but they are quite often made up from a different mix of elements that can be individually priced. The very best thing to do is call Sharon and have a chat through your ideas and dreams and maybe make an appointment to have a good look around Boscundle Manor.

The food was fantastic – as I was certain it would be - and yet amazed at the wonderful spread laid on for the evening buffet and I know everyone loved the star-gazy pie! It goes without saying that the service was friendly, efficient and professional throughout. We had such a magical day and would change a single thing. I never expected my wedding day to finish with a dip in the hot tub but it seems that there is nothing that Boscundle can’t provide to make a girls wedding day perfectly complete. I have written a note to thank John for providing the soundtrack of piano music but please could you pass on our sincere thanks to all the staff involved in the day as well as the fireworks company and Ed the magician (both very impressive). The Singapore Slings were divine so thanks again to Mark (we know he was a little bit worried about making them correctly). Also the CD of photos that David took are fabulous. We do feel that a special mention must be made of your chef. From the delicious chocolate cake on arrival to the Friday evening buffet, from the wedding meal to the final breakfast, he produced the most superb range of delicious food. As a farmer from the Boarders I thought I had already tasted the tenderest beef locally; however I think the memory of your Cornish beef will live with me for a long time. I will also dream about the wonderful cheese I tasted on the Saturday evening.

Sharon, your sensitive artistry with the floral decorations throughout the hotel was magnificent and all the blooms still looked so fresh on Sunday morning. The bouquets and buttonholes were delightful and the table decorations quite stunning. You are so skilled and inventive in the way you arrange your original displays and this certainly added to the special celebratory atmosphere. Thank you so much for your attention to detail and also the floral care you provided.
I think we will all remember last weekend in our own special way and it was all made possible by you and your wonderful team. Once again I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to you and all for making Rebecca and Jonathon’s wedding an occasion we will never forget.

Although I was at Boscundle Manor for three nights at the end of last month, attending Cassie and Terry’s wedding, for most of that time I was confined to room 2 with a serious chest infection. I had meant to write and thank you and the staff for the good care and attention, which I received. I was especially grateful for the special food and the room service. A particular word of thanks must go to Ian. Although I had little appetite, I did enjoy the lamb main course of the wedding reception and did in some small way manage to enter into the spirit of the occasion in eating the same as the occupants of the marquee below! Because of the infection I found it easier to sleep upright in the armchair than in the bed for the first two nights. I have to say, that the chair in that room is the most comfortable I have occupied and I was immensely grateful for it. I trust that at some time I shall be able to return to Boscundle and perhaps see some of what I missed during my extended stay recently.
